This Week in Pokémon GO: GO Holidays 2021, Shiny Kyurem debut and more – For The Win

What’s going on in Pokémon GO this week? Here’s all you need to know about events and raids!
Pokémon GO‘s Season of Heritage is now in full swing and is heading towards the most festive days of the year – as is tradition, players are also allowed to celebrate them in the app during a special event. We’ve summarized all the content for the coming week from Dec. 13 to 19, 2021, so that you can have some stress-free Pokémon GO time before the holidays and don’t miss out on anything.
The first shift change in the tenth season of GO Battle League is upon us: Currently, you can still participate in the PvP battles in the Great League and Great League Remix formats – you can read our Great League tier list for the Pokémon and strategy you need. However, both tournaments will go on hiatus at 1pm PST on Monday and will be replaced by the heavier weight class, Ultra League.
In Ultra League, pocket monsters with a strength of up to 2,500 Competition Points (CP) may be fielded, and the same CP cap applies to the corresponding Ultra League Remix format. However, in the latter, the ten most popular monsters from the previous season are banned, so you’ll have to improvise a bit. The following Pokémon are banned for Remix in Season 10:
Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time
The weekly Spotlight Hour will feature the Fire-type Pokémon Magmar, and for Trainers, it has a solid bonus in store: during the event, all candies for evolving Pokémon will be doubled. Magmar’s evolution Magmortar can benefit from a special attack learned during Community Day later in the week, so make sure to catch a strong specimen if you still lack one.
Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. local time
Once again, the weekly Raid Hour is all about Reshiram and Zekrom. The two draconic legends will be showing up at all available Raid locations for challenges in the one-hour event – be sure to grab a strong version of each, as they are among the most offensively powerful Pokémon of their types and the Shiny variants are brand new to boot.
This is your final opportunity to get your hands on the two legends in such an event, as their relative Kyurem replaces them in the fifth stage Raids a day later.
Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, 1 p.m. PST
Although Ultra League and Ultra League Remix already kick off on Monday, another highlight awaits PvP fans on Thursday: the traditional Holiday Cup is back. In this limited format, only Pokémon up to 1,500 CP are allowed to participate. In addition, only the Normal, Grass, Electric, Ice, Flying, and Ghost types are allowed – the other monsters must remain on the bench for this one.
Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, 10 a.m. local time
The GO Holidays are a truly gigantic event and therefore rightly divided into two parts as well as a mini-event. The first part, which will last until Dec. 23, 2021, is less exciting, though, and is meant to get you in the right spirits with festive avatar items and Pokémon showing up in silly winter costumes.
The highlights of the first part of the GO Holidays include the debut of Shiny Kyurem in the fifth level raids, as well as the appearance of Cloyster in the third level raids. This Ice-type is one of the best Pokémon when it comes to collecting Stardust because it drops extra resources. If you are lagging behind in December’s Stardust Challenge, you can use it to make up ground. We have more Stardust farming strategies.

One of the highlights of the year in Pokémon GO is always the Community Day in December. The mega event allows players to equip numerous Pokémon with special attacks that are otherwise inaccessible. Plus, there’s a whole mountain of bonuses waiting for you, such as double Stardust and Experience Points for catching, as well as limited-time Research tasks. Oh, and every Pokémon can appear as a Shiny, which is great for collectors.

Be sure to stay safe when you inevitably run out of Pokéballs this week and frantically try to restock at all the PokéStops and Gyms in your area and may the Shiny odds be ever in your favor during Community Day!
