Sterling firefighter, Garrett Ramos, passes away in the line of duty, the first in the department's history – WREX-TV

STERLING (WREX) — The City of Sterling announced on Saturday that Lt. Garrett Ramos passed away in the line of duty after responding to a fire in Rock Falls on Friday night.
While fighting that fire, the floor collapsed in beneath Ramos, leading to a rescue by the other first responders on scene. Ramos was taken to a hospital where he passed away.
Ramos served with the Sterling Fire Department since 2012 and characterized by City Manager Scott Shumard as “an amazing man of the highest caliber on and off duty.”
Ramos is the first firefighter to die in the line of duty with the Sterling Fire Department.
The city has not yet discussed plans about a procession or visitation. Ramos was 38 and leaves behind a wife and two kids.
