School District of Rhinelander production receives award nominations – WAOW

The School District of Rhinelander put on a production of Matilda this term, and it has since been nominated for multiple Jerry awards.
RHINELANDER, Wis. (WAOW) — The School District of Rhinelander put on a production of Matilda this term, and it has since been nominated for multiple Jerry awards. 
The Jerry Awards program is for musical theater in Wisconsin schools. Schools have judges come to their performance and are then scored based on a rubric. 
Casting for the musical happened in the Spring, and rehearsals began as soon as the Fall semester started. 
Co-Director Kristin Higgins says that she’s very proud of her cast and crew, and that they were very happy with the nominations. 
“They seemed pretty excited, they were cheering and they were hugging each other, and it was a really magical moment,” said Higgins, getting emotional. 
Higgins even made everyone certificates announcing their nominations. 
Eric Berger, who played Michael Wormwood, the titular character Matilda’s brother, was nominated for excellence in a supporting role. 
“It was amazing, being nominated,” he said, “It was really really cool.”
He said that he would be interested in continuing to participate in theater and drama productions in the future.
