Nicolet College building remodel sees new resources for students – WAOW

The Nicolet College in Rhinelander is seeing some big changes.
RHINELANDER, Wis. (WAOW) — The Nicolet College in Rhinelander is seeing some big changes.
The Birchwood Center has recently been remodeled, with remodels starting earlier this year and are still being finished.
The center used to be home to multiple different fields of study, most recently criminal justice, but that has now changed.
With a new welding lab, lecture room, and machinery, it’s focus is shifting to manufacturing programs like welding and metal fabrication.
“If you look at our updated equipment and all of our labs, you know we’re looking at extremely high end, cutting edge technology that’s being used both in today’s industry and also being leaders in training tomorrow’s workforce,” said Jeff Labs, Dean of Trade, Industry, and Apprenticeships at Nicolet College.
Before this, students had to bounce between buildings to get to their classes.
Labs said that having all of these resources in one building will enhance the quality of students education.
“We really don’t leave this space so it really allows students to know where they can go for help without having to leave the area,” said Labs. “It’s a much more fluid learning environment.”
Students will get their first chance at hands-on work in January, when Birchwood Center opens for the start of Spring term.
